Round robin

In a round robin every team plays every other team once. It produces the most accurate ranking of any format because no result depends on the luck of a draw — at the cost of many rounds.

How it works

  1. With N teams, each team plays N−1 matches.

  2. Ranking is by wins, then head-to-head, then points difference.

  3. Practical up to about 8 teams (7 rounds); beyond that, split into groups.

  4. Fixtures are arranged so every team plays in every round.

Why choose it

  • The fairest possible ranking — everyone meets everyone.
  • No elimination and no pairing luck.
  • Ideal for leagues and small championships.

Best for

Small fields (4–8 teams), club leagues, or as the group stage of a bigger event.
